Found Modern Library: Tomokazu Matsuyama

"Found Modern Library" is the first monograph from Tomokazu Matsuyama an exciting young artist who splits his time between Japan and the US.

Textured shapes and strong outlines give the animals and characters that inhabit his canvases and installations a floating world feeling. Enigmatic in its narrative, with a perfectly controlled technique, the work of Matsuyama (aka Matsu-MTP, aka Matzu) reflects his influences: his graphic design background, street-influenced aesthetics and the work of artists such as Monet, Murakami and Koons.

In keeping with his global upbringing, Matsuyama exhibits his contemporary art around the world, in addition to working with multinationals like Levi's and Nike to bring them into line with "the now, today, in all of its cultural complexity." He strives to portray this global melee through a conscious "appropriation" of all of his influences; cultural, artistic, and personal.
